Scanning Event Viewer 4 Specific Errors

By MarcusArealius ·
I need a utility to monitor and report specific errors found within Event Viewer and then send out an administrative alert.
(as in when a FTdisk Fails)

EVNTSCAN.EXE found within the resouce kit for Backoffice will do it. However, I do not want to buy a RS-Kit for one utility

Anyone have evntscan or like utility?

Well, The only software that I am familiar with and the only one I am aware of which will do what you are asking is patrol by BMC.

I can't even tell you how much it is. i'm sure its expensive like everything else! but, I could be wrong. All I know is we use it for are entire network globally and we have a team just sitting in front of a console 24/7 just monitoring the network and it works.

Look up BMC Patrol on the web. Maybe its something you could use.

Have you thought about building your own? If you aren't willing to buy a resourse kit (and I would highly recommend it)this is probably up your alley...Dump the event logs to a file on a schedule and parse them to look for the particular event, using sendmail.exe to alert. However, depending on how long this takes to perfect you might be better off actually buying something. You could also check out Luminate.net, they have some interesting services for monitoring your servers..but it does cost.

I would agree with #2 just schedule a event dump at certain intervals and use some basic DOS, YES "DOS" scripting to parse through the file like
"type eventdump.txt |find 4027"
this will bring back the entire line that the error exitst in (as well as subseqent ones) and from there you may pass it stroke it etc and use the sendmail or net send etc to kick out a message. But personally I'd invest in the RSkit.
Good Skill
Mike
