ScanReg/Restore....I goofed big time!

By sashabrin ·
In Nov. 01, had to install W98SE sys. files only because of a major crash of Pwr.Sup. The Sys.ini
files are now Sys.tsh files (microsoft walked me thru this). I accidentially did a scanreg/restore and accessed the old files. Is there a way to getinto the registry and access W98SE in order to restore my sys. or is there a way to find the system.tsh files I need to restore my program or do I need to have the disc and start from square one all over again? Getting lots of error messages, regarding old files. My W98 e-mail has an error is SIS597.drv. My Windows e-mail editor is missing, I have to repair W Explorer 5.0 constantly......I have a mess on my hands...If someone could help, I'd me immensely grateful.
Help and Thank you....(sashabrin@worldnet.att.net)

Click Start->Search->Find Files and Folders, type in SYS.tsh and make sure the drive to search is selected and then note location of folder and then do a re-install
SIS597-is referencing the video adapter driver
Use the Add/Remove and locate IE5 inlist and choose Remove,in the pop up menu choose to restore to previous version and then try upgrading the next version of IE
Once this is working open the browser and select Tools menu, select Internet Options and click the Programs tab,you can then set your email editor.
One other thing if you have a Windows 98 startup disk, insert in floppy drive and boot computer and then select the option to run setup without cd-rom support
If all this seems to be to much then you may want to reinstall the OS

if you did a scanreg restore and that restored the old problematic system.ini then restoring the system tsh is going to be just as bad.
if you have not booted 5 times (on 5 different days) you may be able to find the cab file that includes your backup of the new system.ini file
search the hard drive for *.cab (need to search all folders these are in a hidden folder)you will find at least 5 cab files named rb00x.cab x being a number if you look at the dates of the files you will see which daysare available if you open then with a cabviewer file (winrar or something like that. i can't remember if win98 can just open .cab files or not) you would be able to extract system.ini

good luck!
