Scenerio:
Janet calls about her new computer. She ordered a system with a single processor, but she says Windows XP Pro is reporting 2 CPUs.

Question:
Referring to the scenerio above, why does Janet’s OS report having 2 CPUs?

Choices:
1) Win XP Pro can support 2 CPUs, so it automatically reports 2.

2)The motherboard and CPU support hyper threading that excecutes 2 treads in paralell on each processor.

3)Win XP uses an advanced multi-threading kernal that runs 2 threads on each processor.

4)This is an error with Win XP Pro SP2 tha requires a hotfix from Microsoft.

5)The mother board can support 2 CPUs, and the OS is detecting the 2nd CPU socket.

This depends entirely on the CPU involved so without more information the question requires some study to answer in what may be considered as [n]Correct terms.

Well in that case there are several possible answers that depend on the available hardware so answers 2, 3, or 5 may be the correct answer.

Without knowing the hardware that Janet bought it’s really impossible to give a better answer as any of the listed ones could be the correct answer.

It’s also possible that depending on the supplied hardware none are the correct answers either. This could possibly be a Trick Question where there is No Correct Answer.

There is room for too many assumptions to be made here so without knowing more it impossible to answer.

As brother Hal says, ask the question fully and don’t supply the answer. That’s our job, yours is to give particulars.

Answers (2, 3, 5) can be all correct. Or all false. This depends on the context.
Give specifics or give up.
