Scheduled Tasks Won't start

By fjaramillo ·
I have a scheduled task that runs a batch file.
It will not start, even when I try to start it manually.
The task "zipit" is scheduled to run everyday at 8:30PM, it calls on a batch file called zipit.bat
all the batch file does is copy some *.bak files over mapped drives.
The job is configured to run as Domain Admin, password is correct...

Thanks
Nando

Is Task scheduler service started? Is the zipit.bat run correctly?

Hi Nando

Is the batch file written correctly? On my network there are a group of users who all access the same share from the server. I made sure that all the computers had this share mapped to R:.

When I wrote a batch file that created new folders I initially had entries thus:

@echo off
R:
md %1
cd%1
md %2

etc.

I discovered that if a user had accessed the share either through My Computer, Network Places or through a program and drilled down through the folder listing (some are 10 levels deep), and later they ran the batch file (which prompted for the %1, %2 variables), the batch file would create the folders from the last accessed folder of the share and not from the root.

Adding the command cd\ sorted this out.

Thus:

@echo off
R:
CD\
md %1
cd%1
md %2

So you might want to try forcing the batch file to start from the top of the share by typing CD\, then using the 'CD\foldername' command to access the folder from which you want to copy the *.bak files.

Or you should be able to do this by using a UNC path:

COPY \\servername\sharename\source\*.bak <space> \\servername\sharename\destination\

This eliminates the need to map the drives.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the response, I've been away.
My biggest problem is that the scheduled task is not starting.
Can you recommend third party apps?? not too expensive??

Thanks
Nando
