scheduling problem

By rkeizers ·
hello all,

We want to schedule our backup, but we cant seem to make it work. The at-command simply doesnt' work. We tried a second party scheduler (Autobak Pro), but it won't start the backup. The scheduler service is started, so i have no idea what might be the problom.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

thanks,

Rob

What version of OS are you using? If it is NetWare 3.12, 3.2, 4.x or 5.x use CRON.NLM from Novell:

Have a go with "scheduled tasks" in My computer or locate Winat.exe off the resource kit

Make sure your batch file has a ".bat" extension. If your folder settings are set to hide file extensions, it might actually be named something like "backup.bat.txt".

Start out with a simple batch file. For instance create a batch file with only one line that runs sol.exe. Schedule this batch file to run interactively,(put a /interactive after your command when you schedule it) otherwise you won't see solitaire open up. If that works then check the syntax of your batch file for the backup. Here's a line of mine:

ntbackup backup d: /t normal /d "Full Backup" /e /v

If the syntax looks OK then try running your batch file by double clicking on it. If you get a good backup, the syntax is OK.

You might try scheduling your backup interactively during the day so that you can see the NTBackup window open when it runs. And if you are successful, you should be able to then schedule them to run at night.

Good luck.
