scrambled display with win2000 server

By paloma94 ·
All of a sudden the display for our server has become scrambled. It is showing the correct images, but they are all messed up. The server is also running painfully slowly. None of the workstations seem to be affected. The display works fine while booting up until the desktop screen is on and then the image starts deteriorating.

scrambled display with win2000 server

This is only a guess but I've seen this type of problems with monitor's when the refresh rate has been changed to a rate that the monitor is not capable of using. If you can, switch the monitor with a newer one or one with a higher refresh rate capability and see if the problem clears up, if so, lower the refresh rate and connect the old monitor. If not, look at the video drivers.. Hope this helps!

Ive had a similar experience where the refresh rate was wrong (also in Win2k server). The colours apeared to be streaky and basically messed up. Changing the refresh rate helped.

If the image deteriorates over time, I would guess it's attributable to something the monitor sits near that puts out a magnetic field, like a fan or the system's power supply. If the refresh rate isn't messed up, this is something to try. To change the refresh rate, you'll need to boot to safe mode first.
