Two things ...

by OldER Mycroft In reply to screen resolution problem ...

Firstly it looks as if your machine DOES NOT have a 3D-capable graphics card installed (that's why no DirectDraw/Direct3D). You'd need to buy and fit a 3D graphics card.

Secondly, always check the minimum system requirements for an online game BEFORE you download the client software installer for each game. It'll save you this grief in the future, and maybe also save you money (these games are free to download but your ISP bandwidth is not.)

OK that Error Message is very specific

by OH Smeg In reply to screen resolution problem ...

It is telling you that the Resolution that your screen is set is not supported by this game.

What you need to do here is to increase the Screen Resolution by right clicking on a unused portion of the desktop and selecting Proprieties in the Drop Down Menu that appears. You need to left click on Proprieties to select it. Then a Display Proprieties Windows Appears you need to left click on the Settings Tab this will take you to your Screen Resolution Settings. Make sure that the Color is as high as it can possibly go should be something like 32 Bit and to the left of this is a slider to adjust the screen resolution slide this as far as it goes to the right and then click on Apply and then OK. The icons on the screen will get smaller this is OK and then try to install the game again. If it still will not install go back to the Display Settings and slide the slider all the way to the left Apply & OK the changes and try again. That is of course assuming that the slider wasn't all the way to the left or right to begin with.

As this is On Board Video the system shares RAM with the Video Generator and System Ram is slower than Video RAM so the performance is not as good as if you have a Dedicated Video Card so this game if it is Graphics Intensive will play considerably slower than if you have a Video Card fitted to this computer. As E-Machines doesn't list the expansion Ports on the M'Board I can not even begin to suggest what type of Video Card you'll need here or where to buy one. But what I can do is say if this is original and has not had a Memory Expansion performed remove the 1 512 Meg Stick and replace this with 2 X 1 GIG Sticks of PC3200 RAM. As this M'Board supports Dual Chanel RAM you'll need 2 identical Sticks to get the best performance. This modification alone will drastically improve the performance of this system.

how would i know if its not 3dcapable and is there software 4 emachines to try to download for this computer. it was bought second hand so I'm kinda unsure if it has all the best drivers and when i go to that driver it doesn't have an update driver button (vgasave driver under non plug and play drivers in the device manager)actually none of the non plug and play drivers have an update button.and secondly how do i know if my system meets the requirements?the computer is above all the requirements on that page and actually there minimum requirement are my minimum settings on the computer (such as 800x600 resolution and this com runs on 1028x768 -- which really confuses me cause that's where my problem lies in the game from their error pop up screen "option.message_noavailableresolutions and when i try to start it 'this game does not support this resolutions please go to options and choose a different resolution' " and I'm already using a higher res. sorry for all the questions and i really hope I'm not being trouble for you.thank you for your help."

As OH Smeg correctly suggested ~and as I now know from your peermail~ you are misinterpreting the error message: It's NOT telling you that you have insufficient screen resolution - it's telling you that you too much.

So turn your screen resolution DOWN to 800x600, re-boot, then try this online game again. :)

Mustn't be much of a game

by OH Smeg In reply to Here's the error message ...

To only require 800 X 600 Screen Resolution.

Granted I'm not a gamer and don't actually like them all that much but that is a very old standard to require here. I was using better than that when I was using DOS all those years ago.

The game (lunia and or runes of magic) is high graphics game. You need to install extra graphics card in your computer.

Sounds like

by Slayer_ In reply to screen resolution problem ...

Based on reading some of these replies, that Windows has setup the default drivers for your video, chances are it has no idea what your video card/chipset is.

I suggest you figure it out.

This may require some digging around.

Most people will have 1 of these 3, Intel, ATI, nVidia.

There are some lessare ones such as SiS but I haven't seen them in ages now.

First you need to determine what you have. To do that, we need to know if you have a card or a chipset (AKA, Integrated)

There is a really easy way to tell, look at the back of your computer, is the monitor plugged into a horizontal slot or a vertical collection of plugs?

The horizontal one would be the back of a video card.
The vertical one would be the back of your motherboard (AKA Mobo).

Then you need to figure out what brand it is. If it's Intel, chances are it should be on the mobo CD install that you would get with a computer. Intel video is always integrated.
You can read your mobo manual to figure out the graphics chipset (if it has one).

You can also check "device manager" (google that name) and look under "display adapters". Look at what is listed. It may tell you the brand you have.

I know for nVidia cards and chipsets, you can usually go to the website and they have an automatic detection.
ATI may have the same thing, I do not know.

If you want, if your still having issues in a few days, I can do a remote assistance with you to try and get this solved.
