Screen Saver <None> Missing

By pierrejamme ·
Win98SE no longer has the <None> option for a screen saver. Seems to have disappeared after a Repair of IE6.0.
Any ideas?

repairing ie6 has damaged/corrupted/changed the registry

now is the time to reach for the registry backup
or
repair the registry yourself

as you do not tell us how you managed to repair ie6 i am not going to tell you how to fix the screenSaver problem

haha

First, I would make sure that the video driver is installed correctly. You will not be able to set a screen saver if the video has gone back to standard VGA. Check your adapter and search for the latest drivers for your OS and install.
Some sites other than the original manufacturer's site:
http://www.drivershq.com/

http://www.mrdriver.com/

http://www.driversplanet.com/

http://www.driverguide.com/

http://www.driverzone.com/

http://www.pacosdrivers.com/
(drivers and .dll files)
Once you've made sure that the video is ok, then you would indeed need to follow the first person's answer, and make sure that you have the Windows CAB files available when you do this--either under
C:\Windows\Options\Cabs
or under \WIN98 on the original CD.
If this doesn't work, you may be locked out of setting a screen saver if you're in a domain environment, in which case you should ask your system administrator.

I see in your profile that you are most likely on a Novell network, not a domain\NT network. If this is so, could someone possibly have hacked the registry to restrict this?
Delete all temp files, internet files, recent docs. Run Scan Disk and Defrag. Reboot. Scan for viruses after updating definitions.
If you need to know where to look in the registry for this setting, check some registry sites such as:

1.) No problems with the video card, I have 1600x1200 resolution and 32 bit color.
2.) I am the network administrator, so no Domain environment problems or hacking. Run Viruscan every day as well as being protected by Webshieled.
