Screen saver timeouts?

By phill ·
Question for everyone....

How long is the soft timeout on your work computer set for? We are trying to find an industry standard.

Different times.

In our patient rooms we have them set for 3 minutes so the patients don't play with them. In other areas where the public could get to them most of them are set for between 10-15 minutes. In none public areas a lot of our users have them set to 30 minutes. It really depends on the environment. I try to get our users to lock their computers when they leave them regardless of the time out, but you can imagine how many comply with that.

Fifteen Minutes

We found that a lower timeout period tended to cause excessive complaints from our user base and felt that a longer period would be pointless. However, we don't have any systems in public areas; and we do drill into our users the importance of locking their screens when leaving their desk. We back this up with a written policy that stipulates that all activity under your user account is logged and that YOU are responsible for any action on the network carried out under your account.
