Screensaver password

When I right click on the desktop in order to gain access to the screen saver choices then choose one. When the choice is made and then you click((change password)),,,for some reason windows will not let me change the password because when I click on the botton nothing happens.The change password window does not come up.Nothing does. Can someone help me fix this?

Check to make sure the box marked password protected is checked. if the change button has grey text and not black it will not let you modify the password.

The password protect box is checked and the change password button is black. When I execute the button, windows executes the command but does not bring up the option to change the password.Nothing happens.

Just to the left of the “Change Password” button is a “Password Protected” check box. You’ll need to check that box as well.

There are several things you can do to troubleshoot this. Takes time, but will probably fix it.

Control Panel, Add\Remove Programs, Windows setup, remove any screen savers. Search for all *.PWL files on the PC and delete them. Choose no screen saver in display properties. Reboot the PC.

Once you have rebooted the PC, you will be prompted for a password to log on to windows. Press enter for none. Reinstall the screensavers. Reboot. Choose the desired screen saver and add a password.

For the Win95 Operating Systems that ask for the Old Password do the following;

With caution of course:

1. Open the registry editor (regedit) to this key
a) click start
b) click on run
c) enter REGEDIT in the run box
2. Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\PwdProvider\SCRSAVE3. In the right pane, right-click the UseMasterKey key and select
modify (If no entry for UseMasterKey exists exit REGEDIT and proceed to
step 5.
4. There will be a set of hexadecimal numbers (01 00 00 00), change
them all to zero 0 (zero).
5. Right click on desktop, and scroll down to and click properties.
6. Goto the screensaver tab.
7. Click on the password protect CHANGE button, and enter your
password once in each box.8. Click Apply and OK.
