i have a lot of data sitting on multiple pc and would like to transfer it to a file server. Is there any script available that one could run to automaticcaly transfer such data?

Think about writing a small script using rsync.
Google rsync to find it. It is a free ssh-based
sync software.

If the PCs are on the same network AND have a Windows-based OS, I would look into using the FileSystemObject via VBScript (.vbs) file. I would be happy to send sample code or Google "FileSystemObject" to find reference for the methods, etc. You could write a script to move data using UNC paths in just a few lines using the FileSystemObject.

Another alternative is XCopy which is command-line. Google "XCopy".
