What book could you recommend for learning basic scripting?. I've searched the internet but I'm unable to find like scripting for dummies.

Thanks,

This is probably a better discussion question rather than a technical question.

What environment will the script be run under?

What scripting language do you want to learn?
BASH, KSH, PHP, perl, etc...

You will find that the best way to learn a scritping language is to read other's well written scripts, and write scritps for yourself.

The learn by doing mentality is the best way to go.

With all of that said. I have always been thoroughly pleased with the books by WROX publishing.

I would never purchase a Dummies book, because they leave out alot, and gloss over key concepts.

Veeraraghavan: Teach Yourelf Shell Programming in 24 Hours 0-672-32358-3 is the text used at City College of San Francisco - but Unix Shell is not the only kind of scripting.
