Scripting to LPT1

By DAIUTO ·
I'm having issues scripting my NetWare 4.11 clients to LPT1:
The output is all machine code and garbage. The driver has been changed and all firmware is updated.

Scripting to LPT1

by BudTheGrey In reply to Scripting to LPT1

It's a little vague exactly what direction you're print jobs are taking, but for the moment I'll assume that you're capturing LPT1 to a print queue, and that the attached printer is NOT a Windows GDI printer (i.e., has enough smarts on its own to print -- this rules out most sub $200 inkjets and the cheaper lasers).

First, test that the printer can service the queue properly, by using NPRINT at a command prompt to send a PLAIN TEXT file to the printer:

NPRINT C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT /q=<queue name>

You should be rewarded with a banner page and a print out of your autoexec.bat (or whatever other file you chose). If not, then there's likely something else wrong; a bad connection, the print server being whacky, or the printer isn't suitable for use as a network printer.

The most common explaination for garbage print outs is incorrect drivers, but you've taken care of that. After that, check to make sure you've specified the /NT (no tab conversion) option in your capture statement:

CAPTURE L=1 /Q=.myqueue.mycontext /nb /nff /nt

/nb = no banner
/nff = no form feed after the job
/nt = do not expand tabs into spaces.
