Scroll Lock

Does any one know what the Scroll Lock on the keyboard is supposed to do ?

Hello diskaus,

It depwnds on the application you are using.

One typical use is whwn you are running a program and want to halt it you can press CTRL+Scroll Lock to imediately halt the program.

In the old dbaseIII days, I remember it using for scrolling the records continuously.

Now, it does little or nothing, but in the good old days, ('bout 10 or 15 years ago), when PC's all used MS-DOS type programs, and everything was done on the keyboard, it had several uses. Some spreadsheet programs used it to control the arrow keys so you could lock the manner of the scroll, i.e one cell at a time or one page at a time. Remember, this was before mice. Just think of it like this: using the arrows on the kb, you can move through a document one line at a time. pressing scroll lockwould let you do a page at a time like using the scroll bar.
