Scrolling and Access

By s.w.kraft ·
I have two questions related to a re-load of Win XP Pro after a "virus" infected my system:
1.) After re-loading windows, I notice that scrolling is very slow, it looks like the system "captures" a page and then displays it in "slow motions". This did not happen before. Is there a scroll speed option that is perhaps set too slow?
2.) I cannot access "regedit" when I try to, the start-up screen displays and then immediately, I am logged off, goes away. This is mysterious as it worked fine before.
Any help on these two issues will be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Sid Kraft

Windows XP does not reload over itself in anywhere near the same way Windows 95 and 98 did.

I suspect that you ended up with a corrupt installation.

I recommend that you:

Back up your data files.

Format the hard drive.

Start over from scratch.

First though, are you sure that ALL traces of the virus are gone?

If you know the name of the virus, you can often download a specific removal tool from either Symantec or McAfee.

I think that Chas has the right Idea but do yourself a favor and download the microsoft RPC patch before you attempt to rebuild your system. I have had several people ask me for help removing the blaster type viruses because they where having their computers reinfected before they could get the patch downloaded and installed.
