SCSI

By Megtek ·
Hey there.

I have an HP scanner, with a proprietary 25 pin female SCSI card. The SCSI card is ISA and I want to replace my motherboard with an all PCI one. Can I find a SCSI card in PCI with this interface? If not, can I use a different SCSI card and different cable with this scanner? Or is there a converter? If there is a converter, would you recommend using it? I have had trouble with using converters in the past.

Thanks.

It would help to have the model number of your scanner.

You should be able to find a compatible SCSI card, but you may need to have a custom cable made to go between the card and your scanner.

HP may even have a list of compatible cards if youlook at the FAQs for your scanner.

Another thing to consider, will your new PC use a different version of Windows?

If so, make sure that both the scanner and the SCSI card are supported.
If HP does not list a driver for you to download, assume that if the scanner functions, it will be with limited capabilities.

Did a quick search at Adaptec's web site.

http://tinyurl.com/44a7

They have a PCI SCSI card with a DB25 external connector.

Listed retail price is $65

You can get adapters or cables in any config desired. I would not connect to the wide bus as this may cause termination and thruput issues. I have had the best luck with Adaptec controllers and the offer cables with an external port for the narrow bus.
