SCSI Adapter and Scanner Installation

by v-gathara . Updated 24 years, 7 months ago

On my advise a client purchased a HP 7400C scanner over the web. They sent it to him with a USB lead, of no use as the client has WinNT. He does not want to pay out any more dosh over this.

I dug out an old Adaptec AHA-2940 card and went over to install it in his machine. I figured I would install the card and get the scanner to work with it. However on putting in the PCI card and starting the machine a message about the BIOS not installed came up. The machine seems to have recognised the card but the BIOS stop error still comes up. Pressing F1 to boot and installing the SCSI drivers I picked from the web, I rebooted the machine and got a BSOD. It only disappeared when I disabled the card in the BIOS, of course meaning I can’t use it.
I tried looking through the Adaptec website, but I couldn’t find any useful infomation, advice. Just an .exe bios upgrade with no advice on how to use.

Any ideas anyone? Will the scanner even work with this card?

Thanks
