SCSI Card

By pano ·
I have an Adaptec 2906 SCSI card. The card has one internal connector and one external. My CD writer does not work if I connect anything to the external port. I tried working with the termination of the devices but the only way they work is if I only use the internal or the external but not both. How can I get this to work with both?

Most Adaptec SCSI cards have a configuarable bios onboard, there should be a setting in this (as with most) adaptec bios to enable, disable or auto the external termination setting for the host adapter.

There should be a "<Ctrl-A to setup>" message as the bios post test is performed, enter this and check the termination setting.

There is also a "SCSI disk utilities" menu in the bios that will scan the scsi bus for available addressed devices.

Ensure that each device has a unique SCSIaddress.

Hope this helps.

Hi!
If you have SCSI units connected to both internal and external connectors, the termination of the host adapter should be disabled. This is enabled by default I think, so you have to go into the SCSI adapter setup to adjust this.

Oh, additional: The units at the ends of the SCSI cables must be terminated, both of them!
