SCSI Drive Not Ready

By lindzg ·
I have a dead SCSI drive that spins, the OS sees it, but when I click on it, it says "Drive not ready." Any chance this software will work on this drive?

Don't think so, check this out

Check your SCSI controller and make sure that the SCSI controller BIOS is set to send a Start Unit command to the drive and that the SCSI Drive ID is included in the SCSI bus scan.

You may also want to check your SCSI termination. Is this an IBM Drive.

Apparently Hitachi and IBM have joined forces for Drives you can download their Drive tester from here.

I think that the Drive has seen better days.

Depends if this drive has ever worked in this system

by OH Smeg In reply to SCSI Drive Not Ready

If it has then the most likely thing is that the Control Circuitry has died.

If it hasn't ever worked in this computer the most likely thing is that the SCSI Chanel isn't terminated correctly. Check the jumpers on this drive to see if it is Terminated at the drive or on the cable.
