scsi hard drives

By Eminent87 ·
Hi everybody,

I have a 2940 u2w dual channel scsi controller. If I install one hard drive on there it would be ok but if I add a second hard drive to it, it would freeze up during post. When I go into the bios of the scsi controller, it sees the all the drives with correct ID's. Does anybody know what's going on?

Are the disks the same speed? If the speeds are radically different you can have problems.

Is the scsi chain properly terminated (that is to say, with one and only one terminator)? A missing or extra terminator will cause flakey results.

Is the lowest numbered device the boot drive? YOU know which drive you want to boot from, but the computer will only try the lowest numbered drive. (Some implementations will only try device zero.)

Are you trying to use sub-numbers? This does not always work.

Good luck.
