SCSI Hotswap Backplane

by rigneyma . Updated 23 years, 4 months ago

Can a set of drives in a RAID 5 configuration be moved from one physical back plane to another and maintain integrity?

My specific situation entails 4 drives in self contained hot swap canisters (the kind that take up the same space as a CDROM drive). They’re connected to a Mylex RAID controller via an ordinary internal LVD “spaghetti string” cable. Can I take the drives out of these bulky canisters and put them into a hot swap backplane such as in the INTEL SC5100 case?

Additionally, is a change in the drive orientation from vertical to horizontal still a concern with modern drives?
