Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160G parts or repair info

By dfowlermd ·
Above captioned HDD with NO concern about current data contents. If the files get smoked it's no problem.

Unless I miss my guess it appears that the 12V rail of the controller card (on the drive) is shorted to ground [UNLESS I'm mistakenly 'ohm-ing out' through the drive motor winding.] If I can find a replacement control card, great! If not I'll need any recomendations for reputable repair depot's.

Buy a new HDD. Data is soooooo cheap, it's not worth repairing a hard drive. Buy a new one. $42

You may not even need to buy a new Drive

Seagate has a 5 Year Warranty on all of their HDD. So if the Data isn't important return it to Seagate and get it replaced either through Seagate Direct or from the place that you purchased it.

If the Data is Important enough to want Seagate will accept the Drive back in Bits if it comes with a Certificate from a Data Recovery Company stating that they needed to dismantle it for Recovery Purposes.

Seagate even has their own Data Recovery Organization to recover Data from Dead HDD's if necessary.
