Search Companion Pegs Explorer.exe to 99%

Dear TechRepublic,

I love this site.
Hey, I just got a new computer, and the Search Companion pegs my Explorer.exe to 99%. It started doing this after I got Windows XP on my last computer. I believe that it has something to do with Active Directory, and the fact that Search Companion keeps searching even after it has delivered its initial results. It behaves this way whether Indexing is turned on or not.

Trojan! Forcing explorer.exe to use 99% cpu

by dozorit In reply to Search Companion Pegs Exp ...

I had the same problem. In my case it was due to trojan windows.exe which was located in system32 folder and didn't appear in active process list on task manager. What I did is delete the file and explorer.exe returned back to normal.
