Search for Computers

By BobbyJGR ·
OK here goes, I have two pc's that run Windows 2000 Pro that can NOT find computers when I search by IP address. I get the message Search Complete there are no results to display. This works on all our other Win2K pc's except for these 2. I can ping with no problem, I have tryed blowing away the nic card and reinstalling, that didn't help. I also blew away Microsoft Networking and reinstalled. No help. Has anyone ever seen this problem? Does anyone know a fix? What am I missing?

Just a little more info: I am logging on to the network with no problem and I can ping.

Thanks in advance

Bobby

Try pinging the loopback address on each machine (127.0.0.1) and each ip address of each machine. This will tell you if the NIC is working properly. If no reply then replace NIC.

Also, run ipconfig /all from the command prompt to makes sure you are not getting assigned with an address from window automatic ip addressing.

There are several other things to try, but without more info it is hard to say what the problem is.

You might have tried all this, you might not.

Hope this helps.
