Search memory

When I go to a search engine,like Altavista or Yahoo and begin entering a search item in, it displays a list of related searches (in a drop down box) that I’ve made in the past. Where is that list located. I would like to remove some of the searchitems from it as I do not want someone to come in behind me and see all of the places I’ve searched for jobs.
