Second Hard Drive ok?

By caktus ·
I am planning to install an additional Hard Drive (Maxtor 40GB) to my IBM300PL pc, which already has a 5.78GB hard Drive.

I have heard that two Hard Drives is o.k, and visa-versa.

Can someone enlighten me?

Two hard drives can co-exist on any system with the proper setup

Check the bios manufacturer web site to insure that your system will support the larger hard drive, you may have to update the bios by flashing.

When setting up the drives make sure that the drive pin configuration is properly set to Master/Slave,refer to the diagram on the back of the drive

Set the drive up on the Primary IDE cable, with the other drive in the system

I agree with soulrider, that 2 drives can exist on almost any PC.

I have seen situations where drives from different manufactures would not work with each other on the same IDE cable.

You should also make sure that your power supply is large enough to handle the load of an additional drive.
250 watts should be okay.
If the power supply is rated at less than 200 watts, you may have problems.
