Secure printing

By roman_empire ·
Is there a way native Windows or Third party software to secure the printer. Basically I want for users to be prompted for password every time they try to print to a shared printer on the NT domain.

Two possibilities for you:

You can password protect the share when you create it, which would prompt someone to enter the password the first time it is used. Once the password is in the PWL file, though, it won't prompt again.

Or, since you are in a Windows NT domain, you could use user-level shares, which would force a person to be an authorized user of the printer AND the domain before they could use it. It still wouldn't ask for a password once the password was saved on the system, but would limit access based on who you wanted to have access it.

Hope this helps!
