Secure printing over Internet towards third parties

By rvlinden ·
Many of our relations need to print information from our ERP systems locally. The ERP system is in our datacenter behind a firewall and the relation's printer is in his own office behind another firewall. Inbetween the Internet. So far we usually create a router-router VPN over the Internet and have the ERP system (e.g. SAP) print directly towards the printer (or the workstation's local printer).
We are seeking an alternative solution that allows direct secure printing over the Internet in such a way that:
- the ERP print becomes available on a DMZ of our firewall
- and the customer can pull that print from the DMZ (only outbound traffic over his FW)
- and all is encrypted over the Internet
We prefer to make it fully independent of whatever printer the customer uses and hope that this may be possible by sending some pre-configured small (and cheap) printserver-like device to the customer that pulls the job from the DMZ. In that way the customer only needs to collect the printjob from the local printserver-like device. On the DMZ side the solution should also be independent of the ERP system. So also here a dedicated device would be preferred that collects the print from a queue and takes care of the encryption towards the device at the relation.
Does anyone know of such or similar solutions?
