Locked

Securing Folder shortcut Icons

By techtrn ·
Hi,
I am a technology facilitator at a school. I was out a couple of days and when I got back in the lab, I discovered I could not move any of the url shortcuts I had made for the students in our network folder. I would get the circle with the black line through it. It is a great idea for small students so that they can not delete the icon when they are trying to double click but I do not know how it got that way. I checked under the Security settings and found nothing about locking icons in a particular file. Any help would be appreciated. The only way I could figure out how to lock icons was by locking the entire folder on the server under permissions, but in doing so, locked myself out also. I do not have admin rights to our server, but do to the local machines in the lab.
Thanks.
Susan

Hi,
It would seem that perhaps the icons in question have been set to read/execute access for a particular user or group. This allows you to see and use the icons but not move or remove them.

Thanks,
Howie
