i wanna know if there exists a tool for providing security for our folders in windows98.can we have any interface or any tool to provide the security for the folders?do we have any means of passwords or other applications?

windows 98 is quite insecure by design.
if you want password protection of a shared network folder, you can do that from within Windows 98...(Control Panel/Network/Access control) but if you want folks at the keyboard to be locked out of a folder,you'll need a third party tool...if it's really really sensitive data i'd keep it only on removable media, take it out and lock it up...
i went to www.tucows.com and searched for 'folder permissions' and got several shareware hits for tools that dowhat you want. in the past, i have used 'FolderBolt', a similar package, $130 for 25 users, www.citadel.com.
as you know, Word and Excel documents (among others) can be individually password protected.
