    Security Certs???

    Locked

    by james schroer ·

I’m just now learning a Pix 515 here and I’m starting to like the security side of things. I’m wanting to know is there any kind of Certs that have an emphases on security? I’m currently working on my CCNA. So is there some way I can go on the Cisco side of things? Or how about any general Certs for security Any pointers would be great. Thanks

I don’t know that I would call it generic but GIAC and SANS offer security certifications that are not product specific.

      CISSP

Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
      Vendor: ISC2
      Category: Security
      web site : http://www.isc2.org

Sure, there are plenty of great security certifications out there. But when it comes to reputation, the CISSP leads the pack, and for good reason — it’s far and away the most difficult to achieve. First, candidates must provide documentation that they have three years of hands-on experience in a particular security specialty. Only then are they given the opportunity to battle the title’s monster of an exam (six hours to tackle 250 questions covering a broad range of material-study groups, here you come).

      SANS / GIAC

SANS / GIAC offers a myriad of security certifications, I hold 2 from them now and am working on a 3rd. They offer many tracks and have online accessability as well as conferences where large scale “classroom” training is performed. I have been to3 different conferences and each is a great experience. Even if there’s not a clear path in your mind right now, just being around this type of event is enough to get the right questions flying to determine if this si right for you and what path. Take a look at a few different areas of the SANS site..
http://www.sans.org/newlook/home.php – home page and an overview of and links to details of the programs avaialble.
http://rr.sans.org/index.php – the information security reading room where you will find more information that you could possibly digect in a lifetime
http://www.sans.org/top20.htm – The top 20 Internet threats. I was at this televised briefing in Washington, D.C. when FBI director and NIPC heads held this … informative, impressive and scary. Well worth a look.

No matter what your area of interest in security field, this is a grea starting point and these are the folks to get you trained and certified on real world counter-measures, Intrusion Detection, etc …

      Go for it !!
