See through the walls, not within them

By busyjones ·
Using NT 4 WS, cannot see any part of the internal network, but I'm able to hit the web. Have watched the DHCP assign me an address. Have done all the standard Tshooting steps: uninstalled/reinstalled network components, including adapter, checkedmy rights, etc. Machine (Toshiba 8000) dual boots with Win2K. Works fine with Win2K.

If you can hit the web your TCP/IP is working, and you are getting a default gateway. It sounds like the problem is in the setup of Microsoft Networking on NT.

Possible problems:

If you are using WINS, does your setup include the WINS server address?
(If you are using WINS you should be getting this from the DHCP server, but if you have specified this information in your setup, DHCP will not overwrite it.)

Do you have netbeui enabled?

Is your domain or workgroup properly specified? (Check "Entire Network" in Network Neighborhood. If you are different, you will see everyone else there.)

Do you have an lmhosts file, and if so, is it correct? You may want to put in an entry for your BDC with the #DOM: tag.

Good luck.

Could be a domain policy setting that does not give you or that machine access to browse the network.
