Seeing Linux from Windows via VNC

By TellMeWhy ·

I have a windows2000 Server installed and in that network in another room I have a Linux 9.0 Box Installed. Is it possible that I may connect and control that linuxbox from Windows server 2000 via a remote controlling software called TightVNC?

hi decent,

yes......u can use ur linux box from Win 2k using VNC

- vncpassword # This will ask u for VNC password
- vncserver # This will run vnc server on ur linuxbox

New 'X' desktop is linuxbox:1

Starting applications specified in /home/username/.vnc/xstartup
Log file is /home/username/.vnc/linuxbox:1.log

##NOTE:: vncserver is started on 'linuxbox:1' where 'linuxbox' is hostname of ur linuxbox

Now on ur Windows
- start > program > VNC > vncviewer
it will show ask name of vncserver
give :: linuxbox:1 and push ok......(u can also use IP address of ur linux ox)
for windows :: go to Virtual Networking Computing (VNC) link..

This will open linux GUI on ur windows ...and if u run vncserver on win2k..u can access it from linux box ....
start vncserver on win2k...and set password...then go to linux and vncviewer win2kbox will ask for password and there u go..

Hi Peeyush, Thanx for this nice tip but i tried to run vnc to connect from windows to linux and well, I nearly made it. I enabled a remote desktop option on linux redhat9.0. then started an invitation "thingy". it said that now i may be able to connect to redhat9.0 by using any vnc viewer so i did that and it asked me to write the password and when i did , i lost the connection. Please help me to connect to linux from windows2000server so i could learn linux while sitting on my windows server. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
