    Selecting a great I.T. Director

    Locked

    by waltjr50 ·

I am having difficulty finding a Great I.T. Director. I need a person who is proficient in all areas (Data, Telcom, Hardware, Software, Web) and be a good communicator with other senior management. We are a young high growth start up company and I need someone who can react well to the demands of growth.
The applicants we have been receiving are strong in some areas and weak in anothers, or are just not Director material. So I have some questions for you.

    1. Where is the best place to post a job opening to get a great I.T. Director.
    2. What questions should I ask to make sure a potential applicant knows all areas well?
    3. How can I tell if he/she will work hard in the position?
    4. What should be the starting Salary?
    5. What should be the Salary after 1 year?
    6. What should be the starting job title?

How many people are going to report to this Director?

Do you need a director, someone with strategic, supervisory, and managerial skills; or do you need a technician to configure and maintain your telecom, hardware, software, web site, etc?

You may find the first. Good luck finding the second, at least in a single person.

        Manager VS Technician

At first I was hoping to find one person to set everything up initially. Then hire 1-2 assistants to help in the maintenance and growth and review labor needs every few months. Do you feel this is a good plan or ?
