Selective Startup

By bobbysoha ·
For win 98 and me you were able to select what you would like to start when your computer booted up with "msconfig" but for win 2000 that command does not work. I am wondering if there is another way besides going to start > programs > startup to get programs out of startup. All these programs still run in the task bar.

Start>Run> type Regedit

Expand to HKEY local machine\software\microsoft\windows\current version\

the Run, RunOnce, and RunEX are the keys you're looking for. MSCONFIG just made these keys into a Graphical User Interface for Win9x

Windows 2000 Pro does not have the msconfig utility. But I have found that if you have a computer that is running windows Xp it has the msconfig utility program. You will find the msconfig utility in the c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386 folder. The file size is only about 142 KB so it will fit on a disk.
