Send email from Outlook offline session?

How on earth do you get email to go out from an offline outlook 2000 session?

I work in Seattle. My laptop connects to my office exchange server through the lan and updates/synchronizes sends receives etc… All OK!

I go away from the office and my Outlook 2000 offline file loads just fine.

In addition to The Outlook Address book & Exchange Service I have 2 internet e-mail services installed (1 for pop3 to my exchange server and 1 for pop3 for my compuserve mail)

When Offline, I dial-up my ISP and pick up my pop3 email just fine….

Why, when I reply to the email does it just stay in the outbox arggghhhh???

I don’t want to use outlook express as this is – inelegant – all my contacts and journals aren’t there.

I have tried remote mail… I just can’t seem to send out through my dial-up connection from afar.

    Any help muchly appreciated.

    Thank you.

Check to see if your mail has not timed out for sending. That is to say, are the messages in the outbox still in bold. If not, highlight them, select edit mark messages as unread; then click on the send/receive button. Good luck.

        Thanx for the help but….

The messages are still/always in bold and, prior to ‘Receiving Remote Headers’, during my ‘offline’ session Outlook even confirms with me that I wish to send mail…!!! Then it just doesn’t do it… Only receives!

        *sigh* thank you again anyways…

You’ll probably want to examine the delivery settings for your Outlook client. If you go to Tools/Services you will see a Delivery tab. The services listed first are the ones given priority….my guess is that you’ve got the exchange service listed before the ISP services. Try switching them before sending your mail.

        Yes indeed….

what a relief to see the email disappear from the outbox!

I did indeed have the exchange service listed before the email services.

        Thank you

Outlook should know which setting to use to reply by the address that the email was sent to. It uses POP to recieve email…do you have the SMTP setup correctly to send the email…if so, do you have the setting to send immediatly, or do you have to click send/recieve?

        Thank you for your input…

The SMTP was set up correctly to send mail from the email service and sending immediately or manually made no difference to the unsent mail in the outbox during an offline outlook session.

        Thank you..
