Sending SMS messages from the desktop

By Sprocket ·
We are currently looking at setting up our users to allow them to send SMS text messages from there desktop to our staff on mobile phones.

We do not want to use sites like Lycos etc as they are unreliable and not always instant.

We either wanta small program on the desktop or even better a plug in to our groupwise messaging system.

We know we either need to dial out or connect through our proxy server, but would prefer to be charged per sms.

Has anyone got a system like this running realiably?

Yes.....you need a program called SmartSMS, which can be downloaded from the UK Cellnet web-site. I have had this on our system here for some time and it works fabulously well! We use it to page our service engineers via their mobile phones. Although it was originally intended for use with the Cellnet GSM system, by changing the service centre number from Cellnet to whichever other operator you use, you can SMS any phone, anywhere in the world.

It dials out using a regular modem, simply enter the number you wish to message, type in the message, and click SEND.....a response comes back from the messaging centre to confirm transmission :-) Any problems finding the download, leave me a message!
