Server 2003 / DCPROMO

By netforce ·
After installing Server 2003 what do you usually do prior to loading DCPROMO?
What would be the typical procedure involved in setting up the server, I guess in real world terms.

Just setting up a single domain controller for now w/AD , DNS, DHCP etc. for xp/2k clients.

Also how long does it take for cross-domain replication of Active Directory; lets say if you have more than one server you will no doubt have a copy of the same AD on both servers.

Real World AD 2003 implementation

by BFilmFan In reply to Server 2003 / DCPROMO

Does an AD forest already exist? If it does, you will need to run the Forest and Domain prep, prior to implementing the first 2003 DC into the enviornment.

Replication of AD depends on a number of factors such as:
Is it a Global Catalog?
What type of connection exists to the other DC?
How many objects are in the domain and in the case of a global catalog, the forest?

If you could provide some more details, I could qualify my answer to fit your environment better.

first AD server

by netforce In reply to Real World AD 2003 implem ...

No, this is the first time to setup a server with AD. Just thought there might be certain preps and issues to contend with like hard drives; RAID and so forth.

This will be a test lab scenario for study purpose.
