Server 2003 dropping connections

By MikeLazz ·
We have a server, our primary file server, that after 60 days it drops all connections and refuses any new connections. I've checked the logs and haven't found any errors at all. This has happened a couple of times and I am at a loss. Currently it is running server 2003 sp1 and is also a DNS and DHCP server and holds all FSMO roles. Any thoughts?

What is the server connected to? A hub or switch?
If a switch you can sometimes configure the speed/duplex settings e.g. 100MBPS/Full. If you set it to the same on the Server as well it won't have to keep re-negotiating the speed at the time and improve performance.

This may be a serendipitous answer but if it happens after 30 days maybe schedule a restart of your server at say 2am once a month. We have branch servers we do this with and find we have less server problems overall.
