I’m having a bit of an issue with setting up a backup DC in Server 2003. I crated a state backup from my primary DC, and then dcpromo-ed the backup to a DC with the backup settings. Everything seemed fine, I can open up AD on the primary DC and my new server shows as a DC.
However, when I do something like trying to transfer the schema master role to the backup, it comes back with an error that the server is not operational. If I replace the server name with its IP, it still does not work. Other error messages have eluded to a DNS problem, but I’m sure everything is configured correctly. Am I missing something here?
