Server 2003 with 2 NIC’s

by sidvail . Updated 21 years, 5 months ago

I was so frustrated this weekend trying to set up a small home network with my copy of SBS 2003 using a router, that I finally pulled the router and went with 2 NIC’s.

After a couple hours of messing with DHCP and DNS, I finally got it up and running.

Is this a good idea? Should I still have a router in there someplace? 2003 seems to push the 2 nic scenario, so I figure there’s something to it. But seems to me, there is still the server connected directly to the internet. Not good.

What am I missing here? Any advice?

I took the router out because I couldn’t get a port opened for use with my management program (never had this problem with linksys router – but belkin and siemon routers I tried this weekend stymied me) Finally got frustrated and took them out – went with this method. Everything works fine now.
