Server backup data

I am the administrator of a website and stupidly deleted most of my files from the server, about 2 weeks ago. I have been back and forth with the website host to see if they can recover. They did confirm that servers are backed up regularly, but there is no guarantee that my files could be recovered. Today they told me there is nothing they could do to recover them. I am sick and worried about this. Lots of historical data lost.
But anyway my question is if i deleted the files the evening of 7/27, they tried to recall back to 7/23. They are telling me that my missing files are not there either. That my directory of files looks the same on 7/27 as it does on 7/23. Could that be possible? Its like they are implying that the files werent there to begin with. I am just not ready to believe what they are telling me and not giving up. Is there anything else I could ask them to do to try to find the files?

I’m afraid there isn’t much you can do if they say the files you are looking for are not on their backup, even if you’re sure they are.

But it’s a nice lesson on backup: only trust your own (plural!).

The ironic thing is I was attempting to create my own backup – instead deleted almost everything.
I dont understand how the files wouldnt be there on 7/23 until they overwrote it with the data after i deleted. I am going to beg them to try and go back another week or so.

The “Why?” would be best asked of them.
