I have a network hesitation problem. My users complain of a hesitation in network performance usually during high workflow days. This hesitation is seen a workstation delay, delay in file access, and/or network app access.
Here are the Specs: 2 HP Prolient ML370 G4 Servers and 1 Dell PowerEdge 1500SC 25 XP SP2 Clients. 2 Linksys 48 Port Gigabit Switches. One of the HP servers is 2003 SBS SP1. It handles authentication (roaming profiles), Exchange, Files (office documents, QuickBooks Files), Apps (Prosystems – Practice, Tax, & Fixed Assets) Symantec CS. I have about 200GB of data. The other HP (2003 Standard) is a Symantec Continuous Protection Server. The Dell (2003 Standard): Webscense server, Domain controller. All the servers are all patched up except for SP2. The firmware is good.
What I have done so far. Installed the switches. Optimized the workstations. Started an ongoing process of file consolidation. Maintain updates on Apps. Consulted in Vendors to optimize Apps. Installed a backbone from SBS to CPS Server.
What I am thinking about doing: Remove roaming profiles. Install another server for Apps. I have thought about getting rid of the SBS and having A file server and an Exchange server.
I am open for cost effective solutions. I really notice the delay on high activity days. I can see it on any server. If you need more info let me know.
