Server keeps beeping

By tzutzasialbu ·
Hei, folks

I got a PowerEdge 1400SC with w2k3 on it and it just start beeping like crazy. I can't find anything wrong in event viewer. My guess is that there is something going on with the SCSI hard drive but I'm not sure. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Are you sure that the server is the one that it's beeping? Is the server connected to a UPS system? Usually UPS systems beep when their batteries are low/discharged.

That's what I thought at first but then I trace it to this server. As soon as I reboot it, it starts beeping again.

Thanks

I will lay money that your bios has temp monitoring and that your processor is running hot... how are your cooling fans and ventilation? (when were the cooling fins of the the heatsink last cleaned? ) Unfortunately, if this is correct, it may already be too late in terms of damage to the processor.

Well in that case it's in the BIOS where a Temp Sensor or Voltage line is enabled and the sent data is way out of Spec and causing the Alarm to go off.

The Power Edge should have a Monitoring Program installed that will tell you what is happening when the OS is running. That will tell you if you have an overheating problem or a Bad Power Supply which has a low/high Voltage Rail.

Either way you need to shut it down and do some fault finding before you totally fry the thing. At the very least make sure that you have Up to Date Backups of that server but I would be guessing that it's either a High Temp, Fan Fail or Low Voltage Alarm.

Thanks everybody for your answers. I think I figure it out. It is the SCSI Controller. As soon as I took it off and replace it with a different one the server got quiet. I can't believe how noisy they make it :). I'll leave the question open for a few more hours just to make sure that I'm correct:)
