    Server Memory Upgrade

I have a IBM clone Server that I need to upgrade to 128 MB RAM. It uses EDO RAM. Every time I fill both banks with RAM the server start to abending. I have tried EDO ECC, EDO non-parity with the same results. Can anyone give me a clue how to solve this problem without replacing the motherboard?

It sounds as if the motherboard cannot take the RAM in the configuration that your trying. Are there any spare memory slots? If so try a different memory configuration, more chips but same amount of memory

Make sure that you have the latest BIOS update for that motherboard. Also, you may want to make sure that you don’t have any memory managers loading in DOS on startup, check your config.sys and autoexec.bat to make sure that there are no unusual TSRs or memory managers. If you do load TSRs in config.sys, try disabling one at a time to see if any of those are causing the problem. Last, make sure the memory matches with speed and type, check that speed rating.

      Hi,
Make sure that you are using a matched set of RAM chips, same size, same speed. Next make sure the SIMM’s are placed in the correct bank 0 and bank 1.

      Hope this helps.

As the previous respondants have said, verify your simms are equally matched (ie 2-64MB cards). Unmatched simms do not run.
