server on a laptop

This is for testing conectivity in a new lan before we move the servers over . Does anyone know if a laptop (Compaq Armada 7400)
is capable of acting as a server.Where I'm at now I cant find any (*.lan) drivers for the 3Com Lan/Modem card that is in the laptop.Dont even know if the laptop architecture will support this either. It's just that it would be easier to use a laptop rather than lugging a pc,monitor,keyboard,mouse,etc. to the site,cant leave the setup there,have to break it down each night when we leave.

Yes, a laptop will act as a server if it meets the requirements for the operating system. Most training classes (that travel)I've been to use laptops for servers, for the reasons you mention. I have an old 486 laptop at home I use as Linux server.One trick the pro's use is a seperate removable hard drive with the network on it. That way, they use the laptop as a regular computer until their demo. Then, they pop in the network hard drive and it's ready to go.
