Server roles, and offline files. HELP!

By gonzales ·
I've got File Server and Print Server in my AD Domain. Theres a shared folder on my FS, and some users have configured offline files. Due to hardware issue, I'm forced to switch roles of FS and PS (FS becomes PS, and PS becomes FS). I wonder what'd be the impact on offline files configuration on XP workstations. Do you know how to switch server roles with the minimal impact on the users. And whether its possible to do it remotely, or via VBScript? Can anyone please assist?

It will break your end users configuration unless you have DFS configured.

This article may help to explain how offline network folder synchronization works:

Frankly, I think configuring a DFS share and pointing the users to that for their network shares would be the least painful way to resolve this issue, but there is going to be some pain involved.
