Can someone explain the difference between a web server and a regular back office or database server? Are they all really the same over all?

In essence they perform the same task.. delivering content in a classic client\server model.

The differences are that the web server is optimised to deliver all forms of http content.

Apart from that I think there are really no differences at all.
