I installed a WSUS server on a Vmware w2k3 box. I have it all set up and configured. I created a TEST OU in one of our resource ou’s in AD. I moved some development servers and a couple of workstations in to that TEST OU and then put the WSUS GPO there. The problem is that some of the servers show up immediately on WSUS console and some do not. I try forcing the servers in question to find the WSUS server by running the gpupdate /force and the wuauclt.exe /detectnow commands. The first command always works and then sometimes the second command will not be found by the OS on whatever server. I need to figure out WHY some are seen and some are not before we drop the wsus gpo into our production OU’s.
Update to problem as of 12/11/07-
When I drag a server object in AD from one OU to the TEST OU that has the GPO for WSUS it causes it to be not seen by the rest of the network. WSUS sees the server however when you ping that server from the network it is not found. When you log on to the server via RDP and ping the LAN resources it can see everything. HPinsight manager goes nuts when it does not see the server so when that happens I have to move that server back to the original OU that it was in. In the GPO we have it set to NOT inherit any of the other GPO’s from the domain. Not sure if that is causing the problem or not. I did not design or set up the AD Forrest here and no one that is currently here did either so they are very cautious about just putting a GPO for WSUS in all of the Server OU’s. Thoughts on this are welcomed.
