Servers? Same name or different computer

By techgirl75 ·
I am currently building/installing a NT4 server. I am installing it as a BDC on my domain. Should it have a different server name or the same server name if I am looking at making this my PDC as soon as I get it online? I also run Exchange 5.5 and will be adding this to Exchange to move mailboxes over. Thanks for any help.

Servers? Same name or different computer

Hi,
You can use the same ServerName only if you wish to play with the PDCs and BDCs (promote as PDC a BDC1, remove from network the old PDC actualy BDC2, buid a new BDC3 with the same name with the old PDC(BDC2 which was removed from network), promote the new BDC3 to PDC. In this manner you can use the same name for the PDC but this don't help you with nothing because the computer ID will be different and it is a complete new server with no references to the old one (except name).
About exchange:
The easy way is to built the new server with different name as BDC, promote PDC, live the old PDC actualy BDC with Exchange to serve the clients.
About migrating from one server to other, I think that other guys can give you a better answer.

Different server name as you will not be able to build it as a BDC to your current production environment if their is a duplicate name issue on your network.
